Rollet
Electronic money made tangible

Tangible Interaction

Rollet was a short project under the Master’s course Tangible interaction at Malmö University.

Physical money is being replaced by card- and mobile payments. Use of cash is seldom these days and its disappearance makes it more difficult to keep track of our balance and momentarily spendings. So we asked the following question:
How might we make people aware of their balance
through a tangible experience?
The final result of our short research project is Rollet.
Rollet is a personal device that makes electronic money tangible. It is a different kind of wallet, that helps users keep track of their spendings in a discrete manner. Its tangible qualities allow users to squeeze, roll and shake the Rollet, revealing the owners spendings or balance.

Shake the Rollet and hear your current balance.

Picture
See your spendings falling down, right after your current payment, as you insert your credit card into the Rollet.

Picture
Roll up your Rollet and see your recent spendings. The more you have spent the more resistance you feel as you're rolling. The chart shows different categories of spendings.

Squeeze your Rollet and instantly feel your remaining balance. Know how much you can spend before you head to the cashier.
